What’s Up Doc?

Peter Bogdanovich’s homage to Hollywood screwball comedy. Howard Bannister (Ryan O’Neal) arrives in San Francisco with his uptight fiancée (Madeline Kahn) to compete for a musicology research grant, carrying the igneous rocks on which his research is based in a tartan suitcase. As several of the other guests in the hotel have identical suitcases, Howard soon finds himself embroiled in a jewel theft and some missing government documents, not helped by a madcap college dropout (Barbra Streisand) who takes an immediate shine to him.
