In 14th century France, Marguerite de Carrouges (Jodie Comer) accuses squire Jacques Le Gris of raping her. Her husband Jean (Matt Damon) challenges Le Gris to a duel. The outcome will be seen by everyone as God’s judgment on the matter. But if Jean loses, Marguerite will be deemed to have perjured herself, for which the punishment is death at the stake. The film is told from three different points of view.

Warning: Graphic violence.

“Both Driver and Damon ably embody their characters’ very different strains of alpha-male brittleness. And Comer is quietly tremendous as the woman trapped in the middle of their feud. Every mechanism in the society into which she’s been born is working against her, and she makes you feel every last crunch of its gears.” The Telegraph
