Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Bong Joon-ho (Snowpiercer, Okja) returns with this black comedy about wealth, greed and class discrimination. Kim Ki-teak’s (Song Kang-ho) family are all unemployed and living in a squalid basement. When his son gets a tutoring job at the lavish home of the Park family, the Kim family’s luck changes.  One by one they gradually infiltrate the wealthy Park’s home, attempting to take over their affluent lifestyle.  From the official website

Showings of this film are part of our Cinematheque season which is supported by the British Film Institute.

Bong has never been afraid to show violence directly and when push comes to shove here he doesn’t hold back, yet it’s the combination of this boldness with the film’s underlying intelligence that gives it its power.  This is a mature, beautifully crafted piece of work and much cleverer than it initially appears. The ensemble cast handle their roles perfectly, never getting in one another’s way, and Bong’s disarming use of humour leaves the viewer unprepared when things get serious. Parasite is simmering with anger yet rarely lets us see it. There is also a kind of despair, but it’s a lament played in a major key.”  Eye for Film

“Thrillingly played by a flawless ensemble cast who hit every note and harmonic resonance of Bong and co-writer Han Jin-won’s multitonal script, it’s a tragicomic masterclass that will get under your skin and eat away at your cinematic soul.”  The Guardian

“It’s a great film, and the crown jewel of this year’s Cannes film festival.”  The Upcoming
