ABOUT

In this latest version of Alcott’s beloved novel Greta Gerwig skips back and forth in time, starting in the  years after the Civil War, when Jo March (Saoirse Ronan) is living in New York trying to make her living as a writer, while her sister Amy (Florence Pugh) studies painting in Europe.  Flashbacks then take us back to their childhood, when the girls and their two sisters were all at home under the watchful eye of Marmee (Laura Dern) while their father was away at the Front.  We see their play-acting and their squabbles, their growing friendship with Laurie (Timothée Chalamet), the rich boy next door, and Meg’s (Emma Watson) courtship and marriage.  Meanwhile gentle Beth (Eliza Scanlen) catches scarlet fever…

REVIEWS

Written and directed by Greta Gerwig, this Little Women — the latest of many adaptations — embraces its source material with eager enthusiasm rather than timid reverence. It is faithful enough to satisfy the book’s passionate devotees, who will recognize the work of a kindred spirit, while standing on its own as an independent and inventive piece of contemporary popular culture. Without resorting to self-conscious anachronism or fussy antiquarianism, Gerwig has fashioned a story that feels at once entirely true to its 19th-century origins and utterly modern.”  New York Times

Little Women is nothing short of incredible, with wit, emotion, destruction and heroism at its core. An indelibly charming film, it is no wonder that Alexandre Desplat’s dreamy score has been nominated for a Golden Globe alongside Saoirse Ronan’s performance, as it provides the sweeping and tear-jerking accompaniment that the movie’s story deserves, truly placing the cherry on top of a delectable cinematic experience.”  The Upcoming
