23 Walks is a heart-warming comedy drama about finding love later in life. Dave (Dave JohnsI, Daniel Blake) and Fern (Alison Steadman), two older strangers, have been bruised by their individual circumstances. They meet walking their dogs in a North London park, and over the course of twenty-three walks together romance begins to blossom. But Dave and Fern haven’t been completely honest with one another and their future together may be threatened by the secrets they have withheld.

It’s a moving, relaxed, honest portrait of two later-life singletons who aren’t looking for love, but who find it anyway through companionship. While Morrison’s stylistic flourishes can feel forced (each of the film’s dog walks is numbered and captioned), the unfolding drama does not, as the apparent widower and straightforward divorcée encounter a bumpier ride than their simpatico dogs. Johns is subdued and engaging, while Steadman carries the tricky emotional moments, from which a believable union emerges. And while the Ken Loach-esque problems with housing are rushed, this is a steady, unforcedly diverse slice of autumnal life. ”  Radio Times

From the outside 23 Walks looks like it is going to be a run-of-the-mill romance between two older members of our society. How looks can be deceiving though. Scratch under the surface of 23 Walks and you discover a brilliantly written film that packs quite a punch as it explores social topics that many other films would shy away from.”  Subculture
