Moviola > Add my village!

How do I get a film show in my village?

If you live in the UK counties of Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset or Wiltshire and would like to host MOVIOLA in your village, get in touch with us!  We will send you a Starter Pack containing all you need to know to get started.  We will arrange an initial pair of trial shows to see how it goes - and subsequently as many shows as you want in the operating year Easter

If you live outside this area, still get in touch with us if you need any advice, and in particular consider becoming a Moviola Associate, which will get you access to our programming advice service and our film booking service which could save you a lot of time - and money!  Click here for the UK Associates page.

If you live in Europe - or even wider afield, get in touch with us.  We would love to share experiences with you and find out how you do things.

MOVIOLA is a partnership.

You  - as our local partner - choose the films, do local marketing, sell tickets, book the hall, organise any refreshments, and manage the show.

We - as central organisers -  give you advice on the film (we produce a menu of films three times a year and organise sessions where we watch trailers and sample movies), book the film, produce posters and flyers and tickets for you - and most important bring along all equipment and an expert projectionist to put on the film.

You need to have a hall which has adequate blackout, and which can seat a minimum of 60 people once the screen is in place. You do also need to be confident that you have an audience - it takes 60 tickets at £5 just to cover our costs, so whilst obviously some shows will do better than others that is the average we are looking for, and over 60 is the ideal. We will charge you a minimum guarantee for a single show or 75% of your box office (ticket sales) whichever is the larger. You therefore get to keep 25% of your ticket sales plus all proceeds from any refreshments you want to sell.  We recommend a minimum ticket price of £5.   In the operating year 2008-9, some £60,000 was returned in this way to village partners for their community use.

Other Information:

Our main film screen is 14ft wide by 10ft high, our second screen is 10ft wide by 9ft high and our third is 8ft square so you need a space in which one of these will stand.  We do not need to use the whole area of the screen however; this will depend on the size of your hall.  We always aim at the largest size of picture possible to give you the “cinema experience”.  It is not necessary to have a stage on which to put the screen.  All the screens can be adjusted to stand at the maximum height your hall ceiling will allow.

We use Digital Light Projection which is silent and safe and gives a huge, crystal clear picture.

We have two-channel stereophonic sound which gives excellent reproduction of music and speech in a variety of halls.

Your hall needs to have a Community Premises Licence with the box for "Film and Video" endorsed. If in doubt, check with your local council Licensing Officer about this.

You must abide by the UK British Board of Film Classification for the film (e.g. U, PG, 12, 12A, 15, 18).
