Star-studded new version of Thackeray's bitingly satirical novel adapted by Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) and directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding).  Reese Witherspoon plays Becky Sharp, the scheming adventuress, with Romola Garai (I Capture the Castle) as her best friend Amelia.  The film also features Gabriel Byrne as the sinister Lord Steyne, Jim Broadbent as Mr Osborne, Bob Hoskins as Pitt the Elder and Rhys Ifans as Dobbin.  Filmed in Cheltenham and Bath, this is one of the hits of the winter.  A delicious confection.  A truly memorable evening at the pictures!
