Katherine Hepburn stars as a spinster from Ohio who goes on holiday to Venice and becomes romantically involved with an antique-dealer, played by Rossano Brazzi.  Directed by David Lean in 1955, and the first of his films to be shot on location abroad, it is a subtle and poignant piece.  The theme was later reworked by Shirley Valentine.
