Special Events

MOVIOLA is happy to arrange special film events for agencies and groups that do not normally have cinema among their activities.

This can range from one-off screenings for which we provide the projection equipment and an operator, to short seasons for which we also programme the films.

Examples of one-off shows we have done include Emsworth Community Centre’s ‘Chinese Day’ (Eat Drink Man Woman September 2008) and their ‘Spanish Day’ (Volver September 2009).   We have also done evenings about climate change built around Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.  For the 2009 Beaminster Festival we screened Francesco Rosi’s film of Carmen.  For Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra we provided projection services for its live orchestral performances of Chaplin’s City Lights in 2005 and Modern Times in 2006.

We have also been commissioned to plan and show series of films.   In 2005 and 2006 we programmed the first Dorset Food Film Festival (‘Screen Bites’) and undertook the projection.  We ran the films for a ‘Cultural Diversity Week’ for Bournemouth University in 2005.  Every year since 2004 we have mounted “Moving Pictures” for Bournemouth Town Centre Churches Council.   This is a Lent series of five films with a theme to encourage discussion and further thought.  Among films shown have been Jesus of Montreal, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, I’ve Loved You So Long, Bicycle Thieves, The Station Agent and Grow Your Own.

For a one-off show, Moviola makes a charge of £150 plus VAT which  covers the hire of the equipment and the services of a fully qualified projectionist.   The cost of the film hire will be extra – usually about £100 minimum charge or 35% of ticket sales, whichever is the larger.

If you would like to talk to us about putting on a special event, our full contact details are on the homepage.
