Shall We Dance (12A) 106 mins"Step out of the ordinary." In this remake of Masayuki Suo's 1996 Japanese film of the same name, Richard Gere plays John Clark, a successful Chicago lawyer with a loving wife (Susan Sarandon) and family, who nevertheless feels that there must be more to life than the daily round of commuting and working long hours in the office. Every night on his way home he sees a beautiful woman (Jennifer Lopez) staring out of the window of a dance studio, and one night on an impulse he signs up for dance lessons. In truth he is more interested in dating Paulina than in fancy footwork, so he is disappointed when she makes it clear that she does not mix work with social life. The other students are oddballs, and initially he is clumsy, but gradually he falls in love with dancing and eventually finds himself training for a big competition. The only problem is that he has not breathed a word of his new obsession to his wife, who becomes convinced that he is having an affair... "Shall We Dance offers genuine delights." Roger Ebert
