This latest take on the enduring legend is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Russell Crowe as Robin, Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion and Eileen Atkins as Eleanor of Aquitaine.  A long way from Erroll Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, this is a violent action film with amazing CGI.    The story begins when Robin, an unemployed mercenary returning from the Third Crusade, travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, and where he encounters the spirited widow Lady Marion.  Hoping to save the town and earn her hand, he assembles a gang with lethal fighting skills and together they begin preying on the rich and corrupt.  With England weakened from decades of war, suffering from an ineffective new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from abroad, this unlikeliest of heroes and his allies determine to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.  Whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol of freedom for his people.
