Hidden in the sewers beneath the Paris Opera House, a hideously disfigured and emotionally deranged musical genius (Gerard Butler) watches over a young ingenue, Christine (Emmy Rossum), and terrorizes the management into giving her starring roles.  Christine, although fascinated by her mentor, falls in love with a handsome young Vicomte (Patrick Wilson).  Mad with rage and jealousy, the Phantom kidnaps her and carries her off to his lair, intending to keep her his prisoner forever.  Spectacular sets, great tunes, and an able supporting cast including Miranda Richardson, Simon Callow, Minnie Driver and Ciaran Hinds.
