Our Hospitality (U) 74 minsIn the film's prologue, a feud between the McKay and Canfield families results in a double shooting, and young Willie McKay (Buster Keaton) is sent north by his mother to escape the repercussions. Twenty years later he returns home by train to claim his inheritance. In the course of the journey he meets, and is smitten by, a young woman (Natalie Talmadge, whom Keaton later married) who invites him back to her home. Each is unaware of the other's identity, but she is in fact a Canfield, and her brothers have sworn to kill Willie...
"Keaton was given to grand comic gestures, a flair
seen in a spectacular throwaway gag in which a demolished dam and a huge
cascade of water inadvertently provides momentary cover for Keaton’s
hapless hero. But the film’s most memorable moment is unarguably a
breathtaking climactic stunt on the cusp of a waterfall."
Steven Greydanus
"A novelty melange of dramatics, low comedy, laughs and thrills - one of the best comedies ever produced." Variety The film, which was made in 1923, will be shown with a live piano accompaniment by the hugely talented Stephen Horne. No official website, but look it up on www.imdb.com .
