The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (PG) 140 minsThe four Pevensie children are evacuated from London at the height of the Blitz, and sent to a huge house in the country belonging to the mysterious Professor Kirk (Jim Broadbent). During a game of hide and seek, Lucy climbs into a large wardrobe and suddenly finds herself in the magical land of Narnia, where she makes friends with the faun Tumnus. But all is not well in Narnia: the White Witch (Tilda Swinton) has cast a spell to make it always winter and never Christmas. When Lucy climbs back out of the wardrobe, no time has passed, and nobody will believe in her adventures. But then Edmund finds his way to Narnia, and is taken hostage by the Witch. From then on the children are caught up in a struggle between the talking animals who are followers of Aslan, the great lion (voiced by Liam Neeson), and the vicious wolves of the White Witch's secret police. Can they defeat the forces of evil? And what will it take to save Edmund? This is a wonderful version of C S Lewis's classic book which has enthralled children for over 50 years.
"Gorgeous to look at, superbly cast, wittily directed and funny and exciting by turns." Peter Bradshaw
