My House in Umbria (12A) 103 mins"Every survivor has a story." Not to be confused with Under the Tuscan Sun, this film shows us an unlikely group of people finding solace and friendship after being thrown together in the wake of a terrorist attack. The house of the title belongs to novelist Mrs Delahunty (Maggie Smith) who lives there with her Irish chauffeur-valet (Timothy Spall). When a bomb destroys her train carriage, she takes the other survivors home where they slowly coalesce into an unlikely family of sorts. There is an aging British general (Ronnie Barker), a young German man and an American child whose mother has been killed in the blast. Overlaying the rumbling mystery of the bomb is a story of a mature woman's musings, contemplations, and reflections on life, love, and happiness.
