Moviola > Films > Mrs Ratcliffe's RevolutionMrs Ratcliffe's Revolution (12A) 102 mins"She left the land of Marks & Spencer and went to the world of Marx and Lenin." Based (honestly!) on a true story, and filmed in Yorkshire and Hungary, Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution is a feelgood comedy following one dysfunctional family's journey from 1968 West Yorkshire to 19 below freezing East Germany and back again. Mr Ratcliffe (Iain Glen) is a dedicated communist who applies, without consulting his family - wife, two children, brother-in-law - for a teaching post in what was then East Germany. He is offered the post - teaching English Literature - and moves them there en masse. Mrs Ratcliffe (Catherine Tate), a put-upon housewife, is more interested in her family than in politics, and has her work cut out dealing with her daughters - a teenage sex goddess, and a twelve year old communist spy. How long will it be before the worm turns? "Refreshing comedy drama . . . Pleasingly anarchic." BBC-movies "Tate's subtle characterisation is one of the movie's major pluses."
