Donna (Meryl Streep), an independent single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island,  is preparing for the wedding of her spirited daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried).  She has invited along her two best friends from her one-time band, Donna and the Dynamos - practical no-nonsense Rosie (Julie Walters), and wealthy many-times-divorced Tanya (Christine Baranski).  But Sophie has secretly invited some guests of her own.  On a quest to discover the identity of her father so he can walk her down the aisle, she brings three men from Donna's past (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgård) back to the Mediterranean paradise they visited twenty years earlier.  Over 24 chaotic, magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities.  Inspired by Abba's songs, this is a celebration of mothers and daughters, old friends and new family found.
