Reuniting Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves for the first time since Speed, this film could hardly be more different: not a tense, action-packed thriller, but an unabashedly illogical romantic fairy tale  reminiscent of William Dieterle's Portrait of Jennie (1948).  Kate (Sandra Bullock) is a lonely doctor who is moving out of her house by the lake after a break-up.  She leaves a note in the mailbox for the new occupier, architect Alex (Keanu Reeves), which leaves him perplexed as to the best of his knowledge the house has stood empty for years.  This starts up a correspondence between the two, always through letters left in the mailbox, which gradually develops into love.  The only thing holding them apart is that while Kate is living in 2006, for Alex it is still 2004.  How can they overcome this obstacle and find happiness?
