A remake of the 1955 Ealing comedy which starred Alec Guiness, the story revolves around a Southern professor who puts together a group of thieves to rob a casino. They rent a room in an old woman's house, but she discovers the plot and they must kill her, a task that is more difficult than it seems. A Coen-brothers film is always worth watching. A delightful opening sequence, accompanied by brilliant music, and you know already that you're in for a real treat. The terrific eccentric characters and the extremely solid acting performances are the elements that make this film unique. Tom Hanks is brilliant as the charming professor-crook G H Dorr and all the other actors are remarkable as well. The Ladykillers contains a few downright brilliant comedy-sequences.
