Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is a dentist whose people skills leave much to be desired.  When he dies unexpectedly during a routine colonoscopy, and is revived seven minutes later, he discovers that he has the annoying ability to see ghosts.  Even worse, they all want him to sort out their unfinished business for them, especially Herlihy (Greg Kinnear), a cheating husband, who is appalled that his widow Gwen (Tea Leoni) is about to marry a seemingly perfect human rights lawyer, and wants Pincus to sabotage her plans.
