In this psychological thriller reminiscent of Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes, recently widowed Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster) is flying back from Berlin to New York with her little daughter Julia, and her husband's coffin in the hold.  She wakes from a nap to find that the child has disappeared, nobody on the aircraft remembers ever having seen her and there is no record of her having ever been on board.  She insists on searching the plane - she is an aeronautical engineer and had a hand in designing it, so she knows where to look.  At first Captain Rich (Sean Bean) and his crew are helpful, but soon they conclude that she must be deluded.  Perhaps she is.  She herself begins to doubt her own sanity...
