Bread and Tulips (Pane e Tulipani) (PG) 114 mins
On holiday with her husband and teenage sons, Rosalba (Licia Maglietta) gets accidentally left behind by the tour bus. When he eventually notices her absence, her husband is irritated. He phones her and instructs her to head straight for home; instead, on an impulse she hitches a ride to Venice. There she meets a gallery of interesting characters - a sad Icelandic waiter (Bruno Ganz), a florist, a holistic masseuse - and decides to stay. Meanwhile back home her husband (Antonio Catania) is at a loss because his mistress refuses to take on Rosalba's domestic chores. He enlists the aid of an amateur detective whom he dispatches to Venice to track Rosalba down and bring her back to her duties. This is a warm, delightful film: if you enjoyed Shirley Valentine you'll love it.
